The Underground Railroad Analysis - Words | Help Me
Slaves were victims because they had no freedom or rights, they will get torture for no reason. The slave holders had to be cruel, because apparently that is how the system worked. If they cared for slaves, money and time would be wasted. Non-slave holding whites did not have many job opportunities, and slavery made them think they were better than color…. As most slaves are born into there oppressed life they do not have the opportunity to gain any education. The masters take advantage of the slaves lack of education and use it against the slaves to oppress them. The reasons the slave-owners are afraid of education is that if the majority of the slaves gain education and knowledge than a rebellion is sure to come.
The Underground Railroad Analysis
Stampp was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin , in ; his parents were of German Protestant descent. His mother was a Baptist who forbade alcohol and strictly observed the Sabbath; his father, a tough disciplinarian in the old-world German style. His family suffered through the Great Depression , "there was never enough money," but Stampp worked a number of small odd jobs as a teen, managing to save enough to afford tuition, first, at Milwaukee State Teachers' College , and then at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Stammp makes all the right assertions as to why the plantation owners and overseers were not wise to the tricks that slaves would use to get out of work, or to even escape. Instead, they said things they thought their masters wanted to hear, and they conformed with the rituals that signified their subservience. These ideals set forth by the slaves were not always looked at as something to be suspicious of; in fact most masters believed their slaves were content in the current situation.
